HKG security were eagled eyed on the number of items of hand baggage last Monday - turning away anyone with more than one piece of hand baggage unless the second item was very small (handbag etc). In particular one guy had a roll on plus a largish laptop shoulder bag. He was turned away and arguing didn't help. I'm guessing a separate laptop bag would've been OK, provided it is just that - ie carrying a laptop and nothing more.

They were happily using the gauge too.
