In the late '80s, I had been living in the US for a while and made my first trip back on BA. A few things stuck in the memory: I had forgotten how to use the 'old' ring-pulls (that detached from the cans) and covered myself in drink; the largeness of the letters used on UK car number plates; and the sheer awfulness of Radio 1. It was a Saturday morning and we were being bussed; the driver had Radio 1 blaring out and Janice Long was making a mess of reading out a Welsh place name and thinking it was funny.
But I was glad to be home.
