One other thing that you have to be careful of, is making a series of ATM requests that are refused (and often the reason isn't obvious from the ATM screen). Once I tried three different ATMs around my apartment that had apparently run out of cash. However it seems that these transaction attempts were logged on the network, and the fraud detection algorithm of my US bank shut down my card.
