Just a data point that may or may not be useful to you: PLAT Amex offers 4:1 on the Bonus Points Mall, Gold only 3:1. So yeah, you still earn boucoup points, but there's a nice 25% bonus for what is admittedly a rather hefty yearly PLAT fee.
