Hi Folks,

During december 2009 and January 2010 myself and 3 friends are undertaking a 6 week tour of Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. So far we have taken advantage of sale airfares and booked ourselves as far as SIN (from our home in MEL).

So far i have developed the following routing:

SIN-BKK
Train from BKK to Nhong Kai (sp?) and then on to Vientienne
Vientienne to Ha Noi Overland
hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City overland
Ho Chi Minh City to Pnomh Penh overland (spending new year's eve at Sihanoukville)
Pnomh Pen to Angkor Wat overland
REP-SIN

My only concern is as follows: is overland travel between Vientienne and Ha Noi possible, and if so is it safe or feasible?

Any comments or advice on the routing or potential changes would be greatly appreciated.

Arrival date in SIN is 30 november and departure is 30 January (although the last two weeks are due to be spent in India, so we hope to have left REP by 14 jan)
