A popular thing in Europe, but I have never ever seen them in United States.

The probability that you'll find one at any rental company here is probably close to null. If you want to give it a try, then you need to call the rental site and ask. Other options is to drive to closest Toys'r'Us and buy one (or two) for $50, rent one from Avis for $10/day (or similar), or bring one with you. Your kid(s) are allowed to bring two bags / 50 lb (23 kg) each in coach and 70 lb in premium flying TATL.
