Turbulence is akin to hitting a pot hole, not being involved in a collision. Furthermore, a car, no matter how safe, cannot be designed to effectively protect an unbelted passenger when driving over a pot hole at highway speed. The same can be said about an aircraft.
If you want to talk survivability, the CO incident in Denver is the one you want to look at.
