My Notes on the DirecTV system

I lucked out seeing ship 421 doing a CLE-IAH run today and changed my Y ticket to bypass the ERJ direct to DFW and connect in Houston for a chance to beat my buddy at viewing the system.

I found the system to be very entertaining, many fellow pax to be amazed that CO was going this way. An excellent addition to LK's products and services.

I found the 4x3 zoom'd image not to be a true 4x3, made it even more annoying to watch than the stretched 16x9 picture.

No inflight map yet, I hope it's on the way.

No safety briefing video yet, the FAs said it's on the way.

The audio was extremely loud, and got progressively worse when the FAs or pilots used the PA. They were blasting to the point where you had to take the headset off. I was only at one notch on the volume controls. You'll definitely need an inline volume control for your headset.

Minimal signal breakup on takeoff on some of the channels.

I was hoping that with the 16x9 screens they'd be able to present some channels like ESPNHD and ESPN2HD presented in SD 16x9. Especially when it comes to a lot of the major network programs presented in widescreen. I understand the monitors are not true HD resolution, but still the SD versions of the HD channels would be great.

Bravo CO! Can't wait for WiFi, or the limited WiFi or whatever future connectivity is planned for the system.
