I've stayed at the Doubletree once, the W-French Quarter once, the Embassy Suites at the convention center once and the Hilton Riverside numerous times.

Of these, the Hilton was the nicest overall experience(s)--you are not TOO far away from the French Quarter and they do have all the riverside shops. The Doubletree was just so-so--though the rate was much better than the Hilton. My W experience was OK--I guess I just don't like the overall decor/ambiance of the W. The Embassy Suites was good except the hotel didn't "have" me in the hotel register, so when my wife called (numberous times) she was p-o'd deluxe.
