My approach would be to wait 2-3 weeks past whatever period they say it will take for the bonus miles to post. E.g. if they say 4-6 weeks and you flew on May 1st, wait until July. Then call up AAdvantage CS and ask them to look into it saying you registered. If you just play along that you did register they'll probably chalk it up to a system error and credit you the miles.
I would also try to do this. I personally think that AA should be more flexible than they are with these things.
The above solution is probably your only chance at this point, because if you do tell them that you didn`t register, they will say you`re SOL.
