A modest and good GMT watch can be found in the Citizen Eco-Drive line. Orient (previously mentioned) is decent.

Lots and lots of choices in the >$5K range, too. Just as many different GMT mechanisms, too.

In between the Citizen and the VC, Oris makes a superb Swiss automatic watch called the World Timer. Excellent dual time functionality in an automatic. Around $1500-$2000. They have had the movement in a number of different cases/styles. Here is the current version.
