I've shipped FedEx packages to the hotel many times in the past, when I used to work trade shows. I agree with
Friendly Traveling Deathmerchant that convention hotels, knowing they have a captive clientele, are more likely to assess a fee.
However, there is an alternative if using FedEx. You can use their "Hold At Location" service (HAL), in which the package is held for you at the FedEx office that your shipper specifies:

As stated on the linked page, one advantage is that packages are available as of 09:00. There is no extra charge beyond the regular FedEx fee.
