Tell him there's a monthly (if you're lucky!) supply ship from Reunion Island, but getting berths on it is like finding caviar on the menu in economy class.... never happens!! I know of only one person who was able to wangle a visit there on a tourist basis. Of course, if you are some kind of scientist/boffin/animal/ecologist expert type person, you could always apply for a job there...
By the way, direct flights from Oz to Reunion Island started last month... . Only SYD for the moment tho.
