I have a question (I spent a while searching but didn't find the answer, please point me in the right direction if I missed something)- my husband and I have gold status but probably won't requalify for 2010 as we are expecting in mid-August. We'll stop traveling early July and probably won't start again until November or maybe even Christmas. We'll have accrued around 15,000 qualifying miles/20 segments by the time of our leave and will probably be around 20,000 miles with Nov/Dec travel.

Is there any hope of keeping our gold status? It'll be sad enough losing the status, but especially since we'll soon be traveling with an infant.

Thanks!
In the scenario descibed, and also in light of the current promo for double EQM, why would AA grant you GOLD? After all, to become gold, you need 25K EQM per year or 30 segments. That's over 2K EQM per month. Doing 2K per month during the double eqm qualifying period should at least yield the difference between 20K and 25K.

Having a baby doesn't normally mean there is a medical reason to stop traveling for 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 months.
If the baby is coming in mid August, how does this stop your husband from traveling starting in early July?

Obviously, you can ask AA, in January, but I believe the answer will be no.

My view is probably a bit tilted, because my status comes from personal travel, as I only will get about 1300 EQM this year from business travel.
