Has anyone actually flown with an emotional support dog? I saw one last time I few, but I didn't get to ask the owner many questions b/c I was dealing with a crying baby. Can anyone describe what it was like to check in, go through security, take a dog on the plane?

"A customer traveling with an emotional support animal will need to have documentation on letterhead from a licensed mental health professional, dated within the past 12 months, stating that the customer is under professional care for a mental-health-related disability, and that the animal’s assistance is essential to his or her mental health."

There is no advance notification requirement that is enforced or any other such nonsense. If you have that SSR in your record, and there is an SSR for an emotional support animal, then you will likely have to check-in with a person. Otherwise, you can check-in online and let the gate agent know when you get to the gate.
