Camera Stolen – Possibly From Valet…

I returned on Tuesday, Oct 9 from the Hilton Cancun beach and golf resort. The trip was excellent, the service was fantastic, the UG was incredible – Jr. suite w/ hot tub on the deck, and Mrs. Dudemon’s camera was stolen. Over all I would rate this hotel stay as a 10 out 10, 10 being the best.

Here is the camera story, we went to diner and dancing on Mrs. Dudemon’s birthday, Oct 6 so we took a camera. When we got back in our rental I put the camera under the seat and then forgot it there when we dropped the car off with the valet. The next afternoon when we returned to the car the camera was gone and there was no sign of any break in.

Now, like many of you, I figure I got what I deserved of leaving the camera in the car, but I thought it would be important to confront the valet in a non-confrontational manner (whatever that means), suggesting that they may have removed it for safety. The afternoon valet informed me I should report this to the concierge and so I did. That evening when we returned after diner a hotel security man allowed me to interrogate the valet. I told them what happened and they brought the car back so I could show then where the camera was. I was actually quite pleased at how serious they were taking this; after all, I figured losing the camera was the predictable outcome when leaving it in the car. By the way, the value of the camera was only about $100. The security guard asked me to write a report of the events for their records and so I did.

Anyway, the hotel staff were very thoughtful and when we checked out they said they would speak with their accountants to see what they could do. I had never asked for any reimbursement or anything. Personally I think they may be rewarding me for being stupid but it very flattering that they have shown a sincere caring for us during our award stay.

I’ll keep everyone here posted on the final outcome I just want everyone to know that this hotel is excellent in every way!
