I am appalled that you passed up on the double-bump. Who in their right mind wants to take a redeye anyway?! Have UA book you for the next day, take two DBCFREE's, and get a voucher for a nice hotel near LAX.

The flight may not have been zero'ed out. The RCC agent probably saw that it was full to capacity, rather than looking at the fare buckets to see what was available.

So, since you were booked into full Y on the oversold flight, you were probably put ahead (on the IDB list) of someone booked oversold on a L fare.
