Some really serious airmanship was displayed in this instance. Forget the nonsense about flame-out and engine reduced to idle!
Had some quick thinking not resulted in TOGA selection and (among others) consequent redeployment of LE slats the plane would have simply flown into the ground, similar to LH540 in the 70s.
I sincerely hope that the brilliance of the crew under pressure, in what would have been just a matter of seconds, is appropriately acknowledged by BA management either publicly (fat chance!) or privately (highly unlikely).
