I agree that it's 100% loyalty in your eyes. But you can imagine that from Marriott's point of view, it's small potatoes. And I for one am glad of it. If they treated people who stay 2-5 trips a year the same as me, who spends 50-70 nights per year, I would be one unhappy camper. No offense intended!
I think that you will be hard pressed to find ANY chain or credit card who will reward you at your relatively low level of business.
So you are wise to cancel your Marriott Visa, because it's just not worth it. Probably you're best off getting a credit card that offers extremely low rates or more universal reward options. But you are probably already planning to do that.
Again, I'm not being judgmental. I'm just being realistic based on my own experience.
I left Hilton to go to Marriott a year ago, and I now stay with Hilton only a couple trips a year. Believe me, they don't treat me like they used to. And I can't say as I blame 'em.
