Thumbs down Two free compainion airline tix as part of an Amex "club."

Not too long ago, Amex pulled its then fairly new Platinum Card US domestic companion airline ticket program. I now see that they are trying to entice me into signing up for their, "Travel & Leisure Elite Traveler" club for the low low price of $2.99 for the first two months. Of course, the fine print states that year one is $29.95 and after that it's $59.95.

I have no idea what the benefits of this "club" are. All the advertisement can tell me is that I get "2 FREE round trip Companion Tickets worth up to $1,488.00." It mentions that about ten times. Other than that, I will, "...Have full access to special savings and amenities on world-famous cruise lines, hotels, and other luxury travel services." It only says that part once.

to you, Amex. With all that hype, introducing this offer to my shredder will be quite satisfying.
