There was a crosswind today but the wind wasn't particularly strong. The pilot may have simply decided he wasn't happy with his approach and performed a go-around. Safety first ^

Regarding the runway, Heathrow swaps the arrival and departure runways at 3pm, so I presume your first approach was before 3pm and the second after.
