This is consistent with my experience with Canada. While there are a lot of things I love about Canada generally and Montréal in particular, Canada has this extremist, inflexible control-freak streak that leads them to harass people. Having two cops threaten with me being charged for "theft of electricity" because I had my laptop plugged into the wall at Toronto's Union Station is still my personal reference point on Canadian extremism. These guys could really do with a laxative and a blow job.
