Agreed When I was a child and flying on my birthday, my parents would notify the airline and they would provide me a birthday cake too

However, in this case, it looked like a nice touch as the passenger didn't expect it. As for whether an upgrade or cake is preferred, I think either will be much appreciated if it was unexpected
