Just returned from a spontaneous midweek trip to NYC at the Hilton times Square.
I booked a room first looking at the the Hilton website and then calling the hotel directly. We were 2 adults and 2 children,(GOLD). We were upgraded to a corner suite on the 44th floor, and a rollaway was brought so the kids did not have to share. There was bottled water in the rooms and 4 breakfast coupons were included with our keys. The staff was friendly, not fawning, and the evening turn down staff were very kind and unobtrusive, despite the fact that 4 of us were having dinner in the suite at the time. Since we planned on sending the kids to the theater, I cannot think of a better place to stay- even 8th avenue sported a Ben and Jerrys and starbucks and only 1or 2 obvious peep show clubs of yore. The streets are bustling, of course, with a mixture of NYPD and tourists- definitely an exciting place. Hotel security is appropriately tight. We ordered food to be delivered from an offsite restaurant and the security officer called to ask if we were expecting a delivery and then he accompanied the delivery man to our suite and waited and escorted him from the hotel. The view from the suite was NY magical- the rooms were clean, robes were provided, towels huge- huge TV in the living room- there was a VCR and the Hotel guide indicated a video library, but when the kids inquired they were told to go to Blockbuster. also no ice machine on the all Suites floor- the front desk did not know why- there was a sign in the hallway with an arrow pointing to an empty space. Breakfast, at 10:30 AM, on Thursday was quiet and excellent-Others have complained about the service, but we found it to be fine and the food was excellent- great smoked salmon, in a very generous serving, great organic fruit and granola, terrific hash browns and organic eggs and fresh juice- all served in a modern elegant space overlooking Manhattan. I would repeat a stay here. And if one is driving to NY and uses the Lincoln Tunnel, the hotel is right there- no hassle of driving across town- which can add too much time to a trip and of course, if you were to arrive by bus, the Port Authority is across the street.
