I would be very surprised if you were asked for anything. I think this policy is in place to make sure parents purchase a seat for their 2+ year old children, not to police an obvious newborn.
I would bring the hospital certificate and stop worrying about it.

One time I was on DL flight from SFO to ATL in 2007. Before the cabin door was closed, one couple was asked by FA to show the birth certificate.
FA said to the couple, "if you do not show the proof, you have to pay the full price for the baby" (I think they did not register the baby as a lap child and the baby was 2+ year old.) FA called the captin.. After 10 min delay, they decided to take off without creating more trouble.
So my wife is a little bit worried... (she asked her friends.. and they said GA did not take a look at the certificate)
