You're prolly ok.

In SFO, I handed the ticketing agent the BC without being asked and she possibly glanced at it. I'm not sure she did cuz it was folded and she didn't unfold it. In OGG, the agent refused it (nicely) saying it wasn't necessary.

Jet Blue and Southwest are more sticklers about it, but in my limited experience, United doesn't care that much.
