The moral of the story is that an overweight guy (his description of himself) tried to buy two adjoining seats, both to allow him to be more comfortable and to not inconvenience those around him. The problem? Delta couldn't figure out how to make it happen. The online system wouldn't let him do it, and then when he called he spent about an hour and a half trying to get a rep that could make it happen for the price of the two tickets online. The best they could do was give him two seats for $200 more than the online system was showing, however "they will give my second seat away if they need it, even if I paid for it."

While I know that all carriers have service issues, this just seems absurd. And maybe the guy would have had a similar response if it had been another airline, who knows. It just strikes me as odd that nobody at DL has been proactive enough to plan for this situation. I suspect, however, that the individual, who was just trying to give DL his hard earned cash, will never be a delta flyer in the future.

Actually not true.. if this PAX of size wanted to buy each and every seat on that flight he could do it... and it would depart with just him on board.
