My two cents: I hate to say it, but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. You can talk all day about reasons why what AA did is right, makes sense, is justified, is reasonable if you look at it a certain way, etc., but I agree with the above sentiment that it is simply categorically wrong to charge a premium class passenger a fee to change a seat! We (at least some of us) are losing our grip on reality. This thread reads like some kind of surreal daydream.

The issue should not be about somehow trying to justify something that is blatantly ridiculous, regardless of all the ostensible rationales pundits may come up with.
