Yes, everyone has an accident now and again, even SQ. The difference is (according to Wiki) Korean, (not a particularly big carrier) was averaging a loss every 2 years, and, unlike SQ, they didn't write off just one 747, it was a handfull, plus some DC-10's. That speaks volumes.
