I have had this issue before with AF as well...on hold for four days then cancelled without reason.Called AF they blamed the bank, called the bank, they say no collection by AF...hence after much hassle had to rebook using an online booking service for the same flight but at extra cost.The extra was not much more but one wonders if this is a deliberate ploy by AF to increase revenues in an underhand way.
