So to save $50 (and guarantee the upgrade, of course), the OP spent 15k miles. Ouch.
But in reality the stickers are worth $180, so it's actually a $80 difference. I agree that's still pretty bad value for 15k miles, but OP probably wouldn't have cleared otherwise. Even as an EXP, I'd probably use miles+copay on that route as opposed to hoping my "stickers" clear, because otherwise I probably wouldn't get the upgrade at all.
