Friends of mine have never been able to come to a consensus - some take them off, some leave them on... conspicuous or non-conspicuous! Some have gotten thru with it on, some not... completely inconsistent it seems.

Anyone with valuable insight?

I've been at LHR security when a lady was being wanded by a female security staffer and the wand was bleeping when it was placed around the crotch area. The lady was asked if she could take out the metal that was causing the wand to be set off, and she said that she couldn't and that they would have to go somewhere a bit more private if security wanted to see it in situ!
