Employer messed up reservation and got me a 10pm flight tonight, but I know I can just go earlier today and go on standby.

Normally in past with other airlines, I have always been just carry on, but this trip was longer and I do have a checked bag.

How does it work going standby on this airline with a checked bag? Do I check the bag at the front counter first?, or do you have to take it through security with you? (and the gate agents check the bag for you before boarding)
