In Asia they tend to not charge you until you have checked-out, especially in Taiwan and Japan.

Sometimes the one night cost might be a security, in other cases they may not have charged you.

For example, on our trip to Japan we booked thirteen nights at three different hotels, and none of them actually charged until we checked out. We have had this experience in other parts of Asia too.
