Miles bookings are upgradeable with 'cash'. I'm pretty sure that the cash amount is non-refundable as sunrisegirl says, but I can check and confirm that tomorrow.
I have a couple of these redemption bookings that have the upgrade for £150 each way option.
I just tried a dummy upgrade and nowhere in the process does it say that the upgraded booking is not refundable in the same was as the straight redemption booking.
However, neither does it say that the "cash" paid to upgrade will be refunded.
