I am sorry about what happened to you. Basically I don't trust the airlines to do anything right anymore, because I've had them mess up my reservations too many times. They've ruined my seat assignments (separating me from family), changed my flights, etc several times without ever telling me. So I have to double-check everything and watch my reservations like a hawk to make sure they don't mess things up again.

That said, ever since I switched to JAL, this kind of problem happens to me far less often. I suspect the non-US carriers are more competent and reliable about this kind of thing.
