Some people may chnage properties to achive a certain level of status by stays rather than nights. This is a possible reason you would change hotels.

What is the rationale in the first place for hotels to award miles/points per stay rather than per night? Isn't it sort of like if the airlines would award a fixed number of miles per flight regardless of how long it is?</font>
