I think that the hotel chain where you do have to worry about this is Starwood. I seem to recall reading somewhere that stays at more that one property IN THE SAME CITY, are considered only 1 stay, and points are adjusted accordingly. If true, it would be interesting how they would define "city," as whether it would encompass suburban as well as urban properties.

I do not know if any other hotel chain has taken this view of points earning.
