I dont travel with Emirates very often, just once a year typically, we are flying on EX658 on the 23rd July and then the EK659 on the 8th August. I was looking at upgrading our seats from Business to First using the 20k miles each option and wondered if people thought it was worth it.

If it is the 777-300 (not the 200 or 300er) then I would NOT waste the points. ... the 300 has the new J on all aircraft now so not enough difference in the seat for to warrant the uprade.
For the other two aircraft it would be worth it if you have points that will go to waste-- I fly this route every two months - mainly J and even with over 300K points I wont waste them on F for this route- UNLESS you have points that will expire!
On one occaison I was in Y and upgraded at airport- for the NEW J.
