Sydney - Ocean Walk to Bondi Beach , Drinks, Dinner - Tues 19th May 2009

Coastal Walk to Bondi Beach

A number of visitors will be in SYD on this day on the way to Ozfest#6 in Cairns later in the week. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...24-2009-a.html

I will host a walk for a few friends on the Tuesday, and all other FT'ers are welcome to join us. Due to time etc, we thought that Clovelly to Bondi would suit on the day, it is about 1 hour solid walk, with a light lunch stop midway.

Plan - meet in the city, at the Hilton lobby ( 488 George Street ) at 10:30am sharp - we then get to a bus departing at 10:58am . Meet at Cafe Cino just across from the check in desk. I shall be wearing the Akubra hat.

I will escort the group by bus/train to Clovelly beach.
Walk north with light lunch at Bronte Beach.
Early afternoon continue north to Bondi Beach.
After walking on Bondi Beach, I will assist with bus/train journeys back to the city.

If time, we will take a bus north to Watson's Bay, then a ferry ride back past the eastern Suburbs, by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge and into Circular Quay.

There are some steep climbs on the walk so I do not recommend it for any with mobility problems.

Ticket tips:
I know many are visiting Syd before and after OZfest. If you are taking the train to and from the airport, with moderate luggage ( <30kgs ), and are going to explore Sydney by ferry bus and train, I advise the purchase of a weekly travel pass with a weekly gate pass add-on.

A single train trip to the city is about $15 I think.

A Red pass weekly $38 plus a weekly gate pass add-on $16.60 gives unlimited travel in inner Sydney plus multiple trips to/from the airport line private stations. This Red zone covers out to Clovelly and Bondi and all the inner harbour ferries, along with buses and trains.

A Green pass weekly $46 plus a weekly gate pass add-on $16.60 is even better value as it extends as far as unlimited Manly ferry trips, and train /ferry right out to Sydney Olympic Park for 7 days.

Alternatives are a day ticket - around $17 or if you are a local, use a travelten on the buses, and buy a ferry ticket ($5.20 each trip).

Please feel very welcome to join us on the day.
You will need sensible shoes, suncreen, a hat, good knees and moderate fitness. If you do not have a travel pass, you need some funds for transport tickets, but I will be on hand to assist with the travel on the day.
