sounds like you got screwed because it was a soon-to-be-ex-hilton property, and now adam cant do anything, because its an ex-hilton property? (i dont even know what the heck adams job description is, or how much power he has. does anyone?) im guessing he could make your point re-appear or something, but who knows. send him a follow up email?
i have had mostly good experiences with hilton. if they gave me a room with a bad a/c unit, i would bug them for a better one. im assuming you tried this, and they refused to give you any other room in the hotel. that sucks. if a valet took my keys to lunch, or whatever, and delayed me, and i cared (i dont always care) i would tell his boss, write a letter, and not tip him. if there was five bucks missing from my car, i would tell the manager, and tell him he had about 5 minutes to get to the bottom of it, and i was calling the police at minute 6.
im sure you did all of these things, in a very polite but firm manner, and still got totally screwed, and had to keep the room etc. given that you did everything in your power, and even sent an email to adam days after the fact, i think you are fully justified in switching to hyatt. im happy for you, you dont need to be treated the way you were, and i hope hyatt takes better care of you. the only way hilton will learn, is if customers like you take your business to other chains.
can i have your remaining hilton points?
