MR replaced the Marquis program and one had to re-enroll during a specified period to join MR. I thought the auto lifetimes came from those members plus those who enrolled as new during that entry period.
Well, it wouldn't be all those who where a member of the old Marquis program. I was a member, but didn't receive my LT credentials until last year.
As for your first question, I'm not sure what the cut off date was, and Marriott may very well gave it to those who joined the first year. I had thought that the program started sometime around 1983. That would mean one would have needed to join in 1983, but I could be wrong on that.
