August I think is not the best time to go to Greece -- hottest, dryest, most crowded, and most expensive, though it's better to go then than not at all. You'd be better off going in September, even September 1st -- still warm but the high season is winding down.

The only way I know to find cheap fares is to keep searching the usual sites.
