Had a not so good crew earlier in the week DCA-LGA. The captain came on and told us we were 20 mins out (actually ended up being more like 30). At that point the FAs started picking up all the glasses and made everyone shut down. We had another 10 mins before dropping below 10K feet. On what is a 35 minute flight (was 45 that day), we were allowed to use electronics for about 5 minutes. On a business heavy route like this where there is no reason to make everyone put away their electronics this is bad service. If they keep this up it may push some full Ys away. I politely and discretely tried to show the FA the page in Sky Mag that show when you can use what, but she was not having it. Not the end of the world, but annoying since I actually needed to do some work on the flight.
2 things here:
As for the captain saying 20 min, well, sometimes that changes if they suddenly make a circle or a longer approach. I've had below 10K feet for almost 25 min before.
And for the crew, hit and miss, just like everywhere. Certain bases are better than others and even within those bases, some are hmm, how shall we say, not in the right business?
