This would be "hidden-city" ticketing, not "throw away" ticketing. Hidden city used to be prohibited on United, though I think you're right that the current version of the CoC does not seem say anything about it one way or the other, at least explicitly. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is still not allowed, however. There was a recent thread on this.
Nonetheless, the OP is unlikely to get caught if he or she does not inform anyone about it and does not make a habit of it.
