Reviews like this 2 star review really annoy me:
My husband and I stayed for two nights at the end of October,
We were disappointed in the standard of this hotel that is rated as 3 star.
We had booked a double room but were given a twin but we got this changed - thought it took about 30 minutes.
The room we were allocated was quite drab, a light bulb was missing, a socket falling off the wall and the curtains were coming away from the curtain rail and very inefficient air conditioning.
On the first morning there was toast at breakfast but no butter and on the second there was butter but no toast. We also had to wait 15 minutes for milk for cereal - the waiter told us that a member of staff had gone to the hotel store to look for some.
On departure we were paying for drinks and meals that were not included in our package and the hotel staff had great difficulty getting us change from a $100 note.
To set it in context, the hotel was in Zimbabwe and the coupe stayed in October 2008. At this time, Zimbabwe had no functioning infrastructure at all. People were starving or dying of disease. On the streets, people were begging for clothes, not money. Meanwhile, this couple had to wait for the milk and there was a lightbulb missing.
I spotted the review because I stayed at the same hotel at a similar time and the way it functioned was nothing short of miraculous under the circumstances. It was also very cheap (USD 35 for a double room).
