That would be preferable, but please don't give him your card to use. It is unlikely to work, the card will be retained and the account may be looked at as the use of the card in that way is viewed as fraud, no matter how innocent or well intended the intention. There are loads of club deals around at the moment, and if you book a higher fare bracket you may well get him enough points to hit silver and then you don't need to worry for anther year!!
