If you have a friend with a UK address perhaps you can arrange to "move" for a time...

ON second thought, I don't think this will work. The fine points in the "terms and conditions" state this:
Star Alliance Gold or Star Alliance Silver customers cannot earn status in another Star Alliance frequent flyer programme.

and from the FAQ section:
Q: I hold Star Alliance Gold status and the equivalent with a non-Star Alliance airline. Am I eligible to earn Star Alliance Gold status with another Star Alliance frequent flyer programme through this promotion?
A: No, if you already hold Star Alliance Gold status you can not match in another Star Alliance frequent flyer programme.
Q: I have the equivalent of Star Alliance Gold with a non-Star Alliance airline and Star Alliance Silver with two Star Alliance frequent flyer programmes. Am I eligible to earn Star Alliance Gold in either Star Alliance frequent flyer programme?
A: You are eligible to earn Star Alliance Gold status in one Star Alliance frequent flyer programme.
