We just finished a three night stay at the HGI Tribeca.
Overall, I liked it and would stay there again.
Pros: Echoing what others have said--friendly staff, new rooms, clean, decent location.
Cons: Room we got was very small. Not sure if they're all small or we just caught some bad luck in the room lottery. HVAC was a bit annoying in that you had to set it to heat or cold. Very slow service the first day at breakfast (even though we were one of only four tables occupied). Second day was better, but still not quite up to par. Breakfast was good, although a bit different than most HGI breakfasts. Continental buffet that did not have much to offer and a choice of hot items that you order from the server. Adequate, but somehow I was expecting more given the look and feel of the restaurant.
The hotel is not a typical HGI footprint and the restaurant is something way different than the American Grills you find at most HGI's. Anyone else get the sense Hilton is trying to re-define HGI's--at least the urban ones?
There's an A/C/E subway stop right in front of the hotel, so very convenient if you want to take the subway and AirTrain to JFK. We opted against that since schlepping luggage up and down the stairs is not something I enjoy. Cabs typically don't wait in front of the hotel. If you're leaving for the airport early in the AM (as we were) using a pre-arranged car service is the way to go.
