For some strange reason, The Port Authority of NY & NJ did not decide on the well proven technology when they contracted years later to have the Newark airport AirTrain built. Considering the small car size, high cost, and poor operating efficiency, the system has proven to be a fiasco.
But the Port Authority can do no wrong, nor do they ever admit their mistakes! Basically they are responsible to no one.
While there is no question that the P.A. is one of the most unaccountable agencies in the United States, and I would be one of the last people to defend their practices, it is true that they learned the lesson from the Newark AirTrain and built a far more functional and user-friendly AirTrain at JFK.
